Nilgiri Teas

Nilgiris or the "blue mountains" located in the southern part of India, grow teas which are predominantly black, at altitudes ranging from between 1000 meters to 2500 meters above sea level. Most tea plantations get two monsoons with the rainfall varying between 100 and 600 centimeters a year owing to which the tea bushes 'flush' all the year round, unlike Assam and Darjeeling. Due to the elevation at which the teas are grown and the abundant rainfall, the conditions are favourable for the growth of teas with distinctive dark amber colour liquor, which are intensely aromatic, fragrant and flavoury.
