If you want to slow down the onset of wrinkles, forget expensive face creams and plastic surgery. What you need is a daily dose of green tea. Green Tea, hailed as a weapon in the war against ageing, has been endorsed by world famous antiageing expert Dr. Nicholas Perricone.

The controversial dermatologist and pioneer of the complexion rejuvenating "Perricone" diet, used by celebrities including Jennifer Lopez, says coffee should be substituted with green tea after meals. Packed with powerful antioxidants, green tea can protect the body from cancer and heart disease and "Green tea contains healthy acids and protein" said Perricone, "which help to improve your complexion.".

Boston researchers recently determined that people who drink tea - at least a cup a day - have about a 46 percent lower heart-attack risk than people who didn't.

The researchers examined the effects of black tea, regular coffee and decaffeinated coffee on heart-attack risk by comparing the habits of heart-attack victims and a similar group of healthy people. Coffee - whether caffeinated or not - did not have a noticeable effect on risk, although doctors noted that heavy coffee drinkers also tend to be heavy smokers, which may have complicated study results. The researchers aren't really sure why tea appears to lower heart-attack risk. One reason could be that tea is a source of antioxidants.

Doctors at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas say there have been a number of studies indicating that antioxidants lower the risk for heart attacks and some kinds of cancer. In fact, green tea is given much of the credit for low stomach cancer rates in Asian countries where a lot of green tea is consumed regularly. Another reason could be that tea drinking may be part of an overall healthy lifestyle. People who drink tea instead of coffee may have given up other harmful habits, like smoking or eating fatty foods.

A study released at the American Heart Association meeting in the fall of 2000 showed that drinking black tea promotes healthy arteries, which may explain why tea drinkers have a lower risk of heart attack and stroke. Research shows that drinking black tea relaxes and dilates arteries, increasing blood flow to the heart. Tea drinking also increased the amount of chemicals called flavonoids in the blood. Flavonoids, which give tea flavor, are antioxidant compounds that have been shown to improve artery function in people with coronary artery disease.

Tea has 40 milligrams of caffeine - less than 1/2 of a cup of coffee. Other benefits include cavity reduction and improved fluid balance. Recently there was a study that gave tea a role in preventing strokes. Also there are studies that suggest tea strengthens the cardio-vascular system. Now drink your tea! You're doing your body some good.

A spot of tea may do more than perk up your mood. In a recent study, English women over 65 who drank one to six cups daily had denser skeletons than their tea-shunning peers. Although tea contains caffeine, thought to steal bone, it also has compounds that may mimic the bone-building effect of estrogen in postmenopausal women.

According to two recent trials conducted by the University of Illinois at Chicago, both green and black tea may help in the prevention of cavities and fresher breath.
In the first study, people rinsed their mouths with tea for one minute 10-times a day resulting in less decay-causing plaque on their teeth than those who rinsed with water.
In the second study, polyphenols, the natural antioxidants found in tea, were incubated for 48 hours with the bacteria that causes bad breath resulting in dead bacteria.
So drink your tea not only for sweet comfort and satisfaction but also for fresher breath and fewer cavities!

Drinking at least two cups of tea a day may dramatically reduce a person's chances of dying following a heart attack, a study suggests.

The heavy tea drinkers in the study -- those who drank two or more cups of tea a day -- had a 44 percent lower death rate following their heart attack, compared with non-drinkers. The study found even a benefit in moderate tea drinkers. Those who drank fewer than 14 cups a week had a 28 percent lower death rate.

In the study, researchers asked 1,900 heart attack survivors about their tea consumption before their heart problem and followed them for up to four years.
